Carlsbad Unified School District Technology Cabinet
District Office, Conference Room, 8:00 - 10:00 am

Attendees: Bryan Brockett, Margie Giordani, Kimberly Huesing, Rick Lewis, Chad Lund, Cesar Morales, Aaron Nelson, Rob Nye, Sharon St. Clair, Maggie Stanchi, Richard Tubbs

Old Business
  • Basic Classroom Configuration Standards - Update from the Master Facilities Planning Committee
    • Who is on that committee? William, Curt, Suzette, Suzanne
    • Sites should have representation of some sort (teachers or admin)
    • Expenditure Committee will fund document cameras for any classroom that doesn’t have one already
    • Hovercam Solo 5 - not compatible with GradeCam - http://www.gradecam.com/cameras/
  • Data Management Presentations Feb 19th
    • EADMS/Measured Progress and Illuminate/Inspect
    • Teachers for all day presentations
      • Elementary - Shane Little (BV), Kimberly Guillen (AOE),  Ellie Restivo (Poi)
      • Middle - Sharon Rodak (AOM), Dana Dre (VMS)
      • High - Paul Isbell (CHS), Chris Bonta (CHS), Sue Woolley
      • Other attendees - Lacy Metcalfe, Sharon St. Clair, Guen Butler and Kevin Fairchild (SDUHSD)
    • Illuminate is the front runner, but committee wants to share info district wide to allow everyone to have a voice.  That information will be sent out tomorrow by Sharon
    • Break up with DataDirector - no data dump
      • Notify teachers to pull out their info
  • The Parent Survey for School Loop is ready for deployment.
    • After LCAP data is captured
    • Magnolia, Pac Rim, and Valley piloting - students/teachers loaded by Jan
    • Could be a possibility to use NewsELA and Scholastic’s SRI instead. May be a less expensive altemative
Research the cost of SRI and possibly take to the expenditure committee - Richard
    SRI is $7.50 per student with a one time $350 set up fee.
  • SBAC Update
    • Expenditure Committee will purchase the wired iPad keyboards for BV and Kelly
    • Chromebooks need the secure browser as well - Matt Taylor and Ashley Crawford
    • Need to get secure browser app loaded onto the iPads - Sharon
    • Info Systems will test every computer in the labs and learning centers to ensure all is good during Spring Break
    • Teachers want training
      • Have teachers take the kids to the lab to take the practice test to get familiar with the system
      • Need to train principals as well
      • Lab aides?
  • Wireless authentication at sites - tabled until next meeting
    • Issues at SCHS
    • Guest access on chromebooks? Do we want to do this or require each student to authenticate?  Still under discussion.

New Business
  • Standards based gradebook availability in Aeries for elementary teachers
    • Sharon will arrange a visit to Vista with Kimberly to see it in action
  • GAFE - pilot group
    • Roll out time table
    • Interested staff - Sharon Rodak, Melody Flanagan, Erin Adams, Jeff Simon, Andy Rosen,
      • Questions
        • Issues with staff who have already created a google account using their existing district email address (Ruth Cartagena)
        • Can staff use the Google Drive and not the email for now?
        • Who should be on a committee to work on this?
    • SCHS and Jefferson would like to use the single sign on for the google drive
  • Compatibility issues with computer lab computers and networked printers (Aaron Nelson)
    • The new OS of the computers doesn’t match the OS of the old printers, so they don’t work together
    • Trying to find the drivers to fix the issue
    • Toshiba is fine, so the temporary workaround is to print to those devices
  • There should be a concentrated effort to get accurate parent emails into Aeries
    • The best method would be to get the parent portal ready for registration/enrollment/secondary course selection
  • MITI via SDCOE - converting to the combined fiscal/HR/payroll/purchasing
    • We’re in Phase 2, with implementation January, 2015
    • Rick Grove, Nancy Navarro, and Rick Lewis
    • May, July, August, and September are when the trainings will occur
  • Type to Learn
    • Jan - initial upload date so new students needing accounts can be identified
    • Reminder on how to create classes (screenshots) - send to teachers, principals and Lab aides

    • Still unsure how updates to the data will take place
    • VMS is the next school working on a pilot

Old Business
  • Basic Classroom Configuration Standards - a minimum standard should be set in regards to what equipment a teacher should have at his/her disposal in any classroom in the district. The general consensus was that a teacher should have:
    • Teacher computer (less than 5 years old)
    • Ceiling mounted projection system with working projectors
      • include provisions for replacing bulbs
    • Document camera
    • Further discussion regarding the necessity of smartboards should occur. Rob will take this to the Facilities Master Plan committee meetings.
  • January 22 from 7:45 - 3:45, we will have presentations from data management systems.  Please plan to attend for the entire day so you have a complete picture of all the products. We will select some to take to a larger committee of admin/teachers/staff.

  • The Parent Survey for School Loop was brought up at the TAC meeting, but it has not yet been started. Is there a deadline for completion of this task?  Sharon will look for the notes and get the survey completed by January 13th.


New Business
  • 8:00 am - Achieve 3000 presentation by Mark Wojciechowski
    • Magnolia and Pacific Rim are interested in the program. Other sites may want to pilot, but it is undetermined if they will be able to, and if so, in what scope.
    • $25-50 per student depending upon how many students the sites/district enroll
  • New labs - how are they going?
    • There have been no issues reported
  • Maggie Stanchi/Kimberly Huesing and Rick Lewis SBAC roadshow to schools
    • Smarter Balanced field test discussions with principals
    • How are schools going to implement the test using the existing tech at the site?
    • CVA testing is mandatory for juniors
    • Secure browser - which computers will it be loaded on?  Matt Taylor and Rick Lewis will discuss how to push it to the computers
